Starting the quest[edit | edit source]
Items required: a cat or kitten, 5 death runes, a catspeak amulet
Talk to Unferth in his house in northern Burthorpe with the catspeak amulet equipped and your cat with you. (1)
Speak to Hild in the building north-east of Unferth's house.
Hild requires 5 death runes to enchant the catspeak amulet.
Locate Bob the cat using the catspeak amulet (a full list of locations can be found on the full guide page here) and talk to him by doing the following:
The fastest way to find Bob, is go to the western Varrock anvil or the garden of the Draynor Manor and world-hop until you find him or you can use the steps below to find him legitimately.
Right click on the 'Locate' option on the amulet in your equipped items.
Click on the whiskers until the arrow and the eyes glow white.
Follow the arrow until you find Bob.
Strong lineage[edit | edit source]
Talk to Gertrude in her house west of Varrock. (1)
Speak to Reldo in the Varrock Palace library. (1)
Find and speak to Bob the cat again.
Bob may be in the same location you previously found him, so check there first.

When you see the central cat's eyes light up, go in that direction to find Bob. He can be anywhere in RuneScape. However it is recommended to pick a common spot where Bob is found, and then world hop. He is commonly found at the Varrock anvils (south of the Varrock west bank, not the armour shop anvils).
By clicking on the whiskers, the dial will rotate. When the eyes light up and a cat meowing sound is heard, Bob can be found in the direction that the dial is pointing. Bob can be venerated in the Chapel of a player-owned house if a Bob icon is built with 71 Construction.
The average cost of caudectomy will vary based on standards of living as well as additional costs incurred, including medications and laboratory tests. The cost of caudectomy typically ranges from $300 to $1,200. The national average cost of caudectomy is $600.
The enchantment allows a player to locate Bob by use of an interface inside the amulet. To use the amulet, right-click on it and select Open. Then click the right whisker to check clockwise from where the arrow is pointing, or the left whisker to check counter-clockwise. Bob will be in the direction that is lit up.
Compared to some cat breeds that have been around for hundreds or thousands of years, it's understandable why so many people consider American Bobtails to be a “new” breed. That being said, these cats are relatively rare, and it's not often that you will find one.
The unusual tail is actually the result of a random spontaneous genetic mutation within the domestic cat population, and may be related to the Manx gene, which is also dominant. Yodie, a short-tailed brown tabby male, was mated with a seal-point Siamese female to create the American Bobtail's original bloodline.
She's contributed to Forbes and smart home blogs like Smart Home Solver and TechDigg. Bobtail cat breeds stand out for their unique tail, or lack thereof. Resulting from a naturally occurring genetic mutation, these cat breeds don't have the long, expressive tail of most domesticated cats.
Your job as a pet owner is to assess the situation and seek veterinary help when needed. Your cat's veterinarian can prescribe antibiotics (oral or injectable) and pain medication or even perform surgery if needed to treat the injured tail. With proper care, your cat will hopefully be moving her tail again in no time.
